Lauded for her “impressive clarity and color” by the New York Times, soprano Jessica Petrus is passionate about performing and teaching chamber music to all ages. Jessica's last season included solo performances with the Newburyport Choral Society, Musicians of the Old Post Road, Tufts University, Shelter Music Boston, Emmanuel Music, and Henry Purcell Society of Boston. Jessica and violinist Jacob Ashworth's recent recording of Susan Kander's “A Garden's Time Piece” on the composer's album, Hermestänz, (MSR Classics, 2017) garnered praise from Gramophone Magazine: “Ashworth and Jessica Petrus play and sing expressively and knowingly throughout.” This season, Jessica will solo with Musicians of the Old Post Road, Emmanuel Music, and The Jameson Singers, and make appearances with Skylark Ensemble and Handel and Haydn Society.
An advocate for chamber music, Jessica is also the founder of Skylark Spotlight Series, a recital series in its second season that highlights the individual chamber talents of Skylark musicians in the greater Boston area. She is also a passionate teacher and teaches voice privately to students locally and has taught voice at Choate Rosemary Hall and with the Yale Glee Club. Jessica is a graduate from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music in voice and received her undergraduate in Voice Performance and Education at the University of Michigan. When not singing, she can be found trying out a new recipe in her kitchen, or taking in New England's bountiful natural beauty with her husband and baby boy.
