Devyn Sowry was born in Ohio, USA, and started playing the flute when he was 8 years old. He has studied across the world with many masters of the instrument and performed in the world's leading concert halls. Devyn has taken lessons with Sir James Galway, Michael Martin Kofler, Paul Edmund-Davies, Silvia Careddu, Marina Piccinini, Kersten McCall, Ulla Miilmann, and Herman van Kogelenberg.
Devyn has performed repeatedly as principal flutist of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra in Boston's Symphony Hall. He was chosen to be a featured performer in Benjamin Zander's viral interpretation classes. He toured Europe with the orchestra in the summer of 2024, performing in the Berlin Philharmonie, Vienna Musikverein, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Basel Stadtcasino, and Prague Rudolfinum.
At age 16, Devyn was awarded scholarship to attend The Boston Conservatory to study with Professor Sarah Brady. During his studies, he performed as the principal flutist of the Boston Conservatory Orchestra and Opera. Upon graduation, he was granted admission to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Devyn plays on a handmade 14K Gold Nagahara flute.
