Joanna Springer joined Emmanuel Music in September 2014 as Communications Manager. Her work in marketing, publicity, and box office management supports EMI’s over 50 annual performances, as well as education and outreach programs.
Ms. Springer began her career in Denver, Colorado, at the Swallow Hill Music Association, a nonprofit devoted to folk and acoustic music. She began as a concert assistant, volunteer coordinator, and café manager, later revamping their volunteer recruitment and tracking systems; revising the top-down communications in the concert department; and producing and planning their annual, three-day music festival. She served on the ground floor of the creation and planning of Roots Fest Denver. Ultimately producing over 200 concerts a year, she became first, Swallow Hill’s main concert producer, then acting concert director, and finally, concert director.
Ms. Springer continued to serve in the non-profit and arts sectors in Colorado. After a year with the volunteer-run acoustic music nonprofit, The Black Rose Acoustic Society in Colorado Springs, she became their youngest president and board chair and served for two more years as president and booking manager. During this time she was also the “right hand” person for the owners of Stargazers Theatre and Event Center in Colorado Springs where she handled communications and marketing, as well as front-of-house and box office management.
Ms. Springer also served for over a year as a booking manager/agent for national touring singer- songwriter Stephanie Pauline and her band. Ms. Springer has worked with performers from numerous genres of music from classical, to folk, to jazz. She holds a BS in Music Business from the University of Colorado at Denver. She lives with her husband in northern Massachusetts.
