Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672)
Cantate Domino from the Schütz Cantiones Sacrae is very different than the rest of this collection. Whereas most of the works are of a chromatic, madrigal sort of writing, this most Italianate of all of Schütz works very much shows the influence of the wonderful popular style that Schütz teacher Gabrieli mastered. This is one of the happiest, most appealing of all of the Schütz motets.
