Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672)
"Ich weiß daß mein Erlöser lebt" is for seven-voice choir and is thus the largest work in the Schütz Geistliche Chormusik. Although the Chormusik is a late work, here Schütz reverts to a style more reminiscent of his teacher, Gabrieli. Big block chords make the assured declaration from the Book of Job. Many echo effects also remind us of the poly-choral style as practiced by Gabrieli at San Marco in Venice.
