Johann Hermann Schein (1586-1630)
"Maria Magdalena" tells the familiar Easter morning story of the two Marys coming to Jesus‚ tomb and finding it epty. Schein's setting of this text is from a collection of Latin and German language motets entitled "Cymbalum Sionium." Schein combines an older Renaissance style with modern Venetian techniques learned in his studies in that city.
