Motet notes - Harbison

On Sunday, November 27, I arrived for the service at Emmanuel Church and glanced ahead at the order of the service, spotting a text by Thomas Aquinas which I had known for a long time, heard put to music, but had not read closely enough.

It is a wonderful text and I began hearing it in a six-voice setting. Fifteen minutes later I left the sanctuary and went to find the choir to borrow a pencil, offered by Margaret Johnson. By the end of the service I had outlined, on the bulletin, this setting, dedicated to the outstanding Executive Director of Emmanuel Music, Pat Krol.
