Gawthrop: The Longest Night
Daniel Gawthrop (1949 - )
Composed in 2016 for the ensemble Renaissance Men, The Longest Night tells the tale of the winter solstice and the challenges of the season. The text of comfort drawn from the ancient Celtic Christian tradition by Jane Griner evokes warmth and peace through Gawthrop’s rich harmonic luster. Emmanuel Music performed The Longest Night for Blue Christmas services in 2016 and 2017.
